Random interview: Matt

June 2nd, 2008

I’m starting a series of random interviews of people who switched to Mac or use them on a daily basis. This will be a great way to see how people use their computers, their habits and preferences. For this first one, I asked a couple questions to my long time buddy Matt.

A little background on Matt. He’s a sound engineer, living in France. He’s been using a Mac for a couple years. Now let’s hear about him.

  • Which Mac do you own? Since when?
My first Apple computer was an iBook G4 that I bought in february 2005. It died on me 2 years later, I just got a Macbook G5.
  • Why did you buy a Mac?
I’ve always heard about their reliability and simplicity. I only knew the PC at this time and it’s always interesting to learn another system.
  • How long did it take for you to completely switch from PC to Mac?
I think that after 2 months I was good… it’s not that hard, you have to think ‘easy’. But I’m still in between Mac and PC as I have a PC desktop and a Mac laptop.
  • Why do you still use a PC?
Having a Mac laptop is convenient, but I can’t stay on it for too long. I’m just more comfortable in front of my PC. And for softwares, it’s the same between both.
  • Speaking of software, which ones do you mostly use on your Mac?
Sound software like ProTools, Cubase and Digital Performer. And also basic ones like Safari and iTunes, and lastly Adobe Photoshop.
  • Is there any less-known software you like a lot and want to talk about?
Not really, I’m not a computer geek. I just stick with what’s on the computer by default (iCal, iTunes). But there’s a couple French websites about Mac software or hardware that I like:
    - Newbiemac (there’s lots of little hints)
    - Macbidouille
    - Applenews (another blog about Apple)
  • Do you own any other Apple products?
    No.
  • Lastly, what do you prefer about your Mac?
It’s autonomy… nothing to say about it… I’ve made a 6 hours trip with it. I also like its design, the look of OS X, the iRemote (when I want to watch a movie or listen some music, it’s really cool), its ease of use… in fact it’s lots of little things that make the difference.

Thanks Matt.
