Upgrade your Mac in less than 5 minutes

June 18th, 2008

MacBooks and iMacs ship with 1GB of RAM by default. That might not seem enough to you. But instead of having it upgraded in an Apple Store, you’d better do it yourself, it’s a lot cheaper (like you can save hundreds of $$$) and very easy to achieve, it doesn’t take more than 5 minutes.

To upgrade the RAM by yourself, you first need to buy it. It’s around $50 for 2GB. RAM always works by pair, that means 2GB is split in 2 modules of 1GB each. Once you got your new RAM, turn off your computer, and let it cool down. Then it’s super easy.

If you have a Macbook, follow the steps here:

If you have an iMac (early 2008), follow the steps here:

If you have a MacBook Pro, follow the steps

Here are videos that explain how to do it for all 3 computers.

And here’s a bonus for MacBook owners, how to change your hard drive.
