What’s wrong with the App Store?

July 28th, 2008

I just took a look at new applications available today in the App Store, and I was shocked to see the same kind of applications again! Wake up Apple! What’s happening to you?

It’s been over two weeks that the App Store offers iPhone and iPod Touch users to download applications for their precious gadget. This adds great value to these devices, thanks to the numerous apps already available. But I’m really surprised to see lots of poor quality and useless ones. Knowing Apple, this shouldn’t happen.

If you don’t already know, there are people at Apple who approve applications before they are published on the App Store. I don’t know what are the requirements, but they seem to be very low. So we are served with hideous things like the ones below. And these aren’t free!

Not only some apps look bad and don’t deserve to be on any Apple product, but also there are too many apps of the same kind. Get to the App Store and count the number of tip calculators, flash lights, gas saving… People won’t buy 10 tip calculators!

And I haven’t talked about developers who can’t release their applications to the App Store. If it’s because their apps are worst than the worst ones already available, then let me say that developers suck! If they do have great applications under the hood, then I’d like to see them, and Apple isn’t doing its duty properly.

I don’t think anyone knows the requirements for an app to be released on the App Store, but there’s a lot of people would like some explanations from Apple.

So far, the only reason I can see, that would explain why there’s lots of crappy apps, is that Apple wants to have lots of apps released fast, so they can show great numbers in an upcoming announcement…

Any thoughts?
